How many of us here believe that we are "man" and shouldn't be too obvious in emotion... especially those of sorrow and despair..
Often we hear this from TV or from our friends that "real men don't cry"... in fact there is a Chinese saying that goes "Real men shed blood and never tears"... I was wondering about this because you know, being in MDC, you see some dudes crying over small little things. Some of my other friends think it's funny and they laugh at those that get upset and cry. I personally admit that when you hit me at the right spot, I cry rather easily, being naturally a more emotional person. What does God and the Bible say about this?
I remember there was this church camp and we had this quiz or something... and the question they asked us was to find the shortest verse in the entire Bible. That verse is in John 11:35.
Jesus wept.
That's it. Simple as that. Jesus showed us guys that real men really do cry and show emotion. In John 11, Jesus' friend Lazarus, whom he loved had died from an illness. When Jesus saw Lazarus' sister Mary crying, along with the people who were comforting her also mourning, Jesus cried too!
Ofcourse we don't need to wait until such tragedy such as death occurs before we allow ourselves to cry and feel sorrow. We are only human! But God promises us that when we go to heaven, "He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things have passed away." (Revelation 21:4)
I learned that it is only human for us to cry, even if it is the little things... and the next time I see a brother or a sister overcome with tears, I will not join those who laugh or mock them, but bring them the comfort of a friend and pray for them to receive the peace of God.
