Of Forgiveness

Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everybody. If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. Do not take revenge, my friends, but leave room for God's wrath, for it is written: It is mine to avenge; I will repay, says the Lord. On the contrary:

"If your enemy is hungry, feed him;
if he is thirsty, give him something to drink.
In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head."

Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

- Romans 12:17-21

-----------------------

Recently I felt betrayed by a friend of mine.
I was utterly disappointed and angry with him.
My blood was boiling.

But

I decided to make peace with him by talking things out.
It went well... on the surface.
But deep inside there is still anger.
The forgiveness wasn't genuine.
It started not to feel right.

But.

Jesus forgives us.
We can forgive because Jesus first forgives us.
I prayed and forgiven him.
I felt released from the resentment I had.

Thank you Jesus for your love.

Learning to forgive gives empowers us to know how to keep loving. Like you said, we can love because God first chose to love us even though we have betrayed Him countless times.

If you think about it, are we really any better than that person we are trying to forgive? Bible tells us "For ALL have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God." We deserve nothing, save for the grace of God. But the beautiful thing is that, in Christ, we are everything. More than you can ever know. :)

Choose to forgive. Choose to love. The worldly way to look at it, is that you have given up your right to feel justified. In actual fact, you have tapped into the most powerful gift, His love. God bless.
