It is by the Grace of God they have been saved. From Eph2 verse11-13, why would Paul ask them to remember their past? He made a re-emphasize on the grace of God that only by the Blood of Christ its possible. It shows the extent of the Grace. It speaks about Non-Jews being separated from Christ and the Jews.
But now have been brought near through the blood of Christ. He broke the barrier made by man. The Barrier of hositility that consists legalisam was broken. And its not about being a Jew (was not more spiritual) or a Gentile (was not less important), but God created a new man. And this made peace. Both of the Jews and Non-Jews were reconciled to God. Now, "Friends of God".
This Body is built on the foundation of the Apostles and Prophets and Christ as the chief conerstone. Whereby the One body rises up to become a Holy temple in the Lord and each person (you- refering to the Gentiles) being built to become a Holy temple for God to reside in.
The whole of that is being referred to as the mystery of Christ in Eph3. It is by the Grace of God to Paul, this mystery is revealed. That now, there's a Hope in Christ and the Promises of God for the Gentiles.
Ephesians 2
11Therefore, remember that formerly you who are Gentiles by birth and called "uncircumcised" by those who call themselves "the circumcision" (that done in the body by the hands of men)— 12remember that at that time you were separate from Christ, excluded from citizenship in Israel and foreigners to the covenants of the promise, without hope and without God in the world. 13But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far away have been brought near through the blood of Christ.
14For he himself is our peace, who has made the two one and has destroyed the barrier, the dividing wall of hostility, 15by abolishing in his flesh the law with its commandments and regulations. His purpose was to create in himself one new man out of the two, thus making peace, 16and in this one body to reconcile both of them to God through the cross, by which he put to death their hostility. 17He came and preached peace to you who were far away and peace to those who were near. 18For through him we both have access to the Father by one Spirit.
19Consequently, you are no longer foreigners and aliens, but fellow citizens with God's people and members of God's household, 20built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the chief cornerstone. 21In him the whole building is joined together and rises to become a holy temple in the Lord. 22And in him you too are being built together to become a dwelling in which God lives by his Spirit.
Ephesians 3
1For this reason I, Paul, the prisoner of Christ Jesus for the sake of you Gentiles—
2Surely you have heard about the administration of God's grace that was given to me for you, 3that is, the mystery made known to me by revelation, as I have already written briefly. 4In reading this, then, you will be able to understand my insight into the mystery of Christ, 5which was not made known to men in other generations as it has now been revealed by the Spirit to God's holy apostles and prophets. 6This mystery is that through the gospel the Gentiles are heirs together with Israel, members together of one body, and sharers together in the promise in Christ Jesus.
7I became a servant of this gospel by the gift of God's grace given me through the working of his power. 8Although I am less than the least of all God's people, this grace was given me: to preach to the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ, 9and to make plain to everyone the administration of this mystery, which for ages past was kept hidden in God, who created all things. 10His intent was that now, through the church, the manifold wisdom of God should be made known to the rulers and authorities in the heavenly realms, 11according to his eternal purpose which he accomplished in Christ Jesus our Lord. 12In him and through faith in him we may approach God with freedom and confidence. 13I ask you, therefore, not to be discouraged because of my sufferings for you, which are your glory.
God's agender is for all to know Him. It was the Jews that excluded the Gentiles. But it was God who tore the barrier away. God wants to reach out to all. He died so that we may have access to the Father by one spirit. But it could be us that excludes others from receving the gospel. Why? Because of our own Prejudices (this person very 'hard & CMI'). Its not up for us to decided. But to ask the grace of God to be upon us to reveal the secrets of God to these people.
Application: To pray and ask God for one person at workplace or elsewhere. To ask God to meet the needs of the person and to share with him about God.
