I was reading a passage from a devotion book on prayer and the author described prayer as the quarter in your pocket when you see one of those irresistible gumball machines. If you don't have that quarter, you will not be able to get your mouth-watering treat. In my context, I imagined it to be those coins in your pocket when you're really thirsty and you've found a vending machine... Because I have those coins, I can have access to a drink of my choice to quench my thirst... I liked that analogy very much... prayer is indeed something we must not leave the house with everyday!
Prayer is the coins in your pocket when it comes to releasing the vast resources of God's character and blessings in our lives. Furthermore, our God is the God of the "how much more?".. and is always desiring to bless us.. However, if we do not ask, we cannot tap into the vast power and blessings that is overflowing from heaven.
James 5:16
The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.
God has called for our prayer to be "fervent" and "effective". Prayer cannot be a formality and a religious activity... it must be persistent and passionate... in the same way Jesus prays for us..
The more we pray, the more we receive... and our lives will be reflect the Glory of God
During the week, my brother David's choir, St. Gabriel's Secondary, took part in the SYF choral excellence program and we were praying for God's favour and glory to be shown by giving them a GOLD award. In fact, David shared with me that he was going to tell the choir that all they have achieved as a choir is a gift from God and that the hard work they put in will pay off. Therefore we were really praying hard that his message to them will be reinforced powerfully by the Lord blessing them with gold... and praise God! Our prayers were answered and St. Gabriel's received the gold award.. prayer does pay off and his students were able to see God's hand in the competition.
