" of my people. They consult a wooden idol and are answered by a stick of wood. A spirit of prostitution leads them astray; they are unfaithful to their God. " - Hosea 4:12
sounds remotely silly.
like, who would consult a block of wood?
oh, but that's how we sometimes are.
from God's perspective, we are all being silly.
think of the things we turn to.
computer games, a jumbled mess of wires and plastic and silicon;
music, a fallen state of its intended glory;
pop stars, a poor misrepresentation of ideals;
or lastly, ourselves.
when a dad looks at his young son who thinks he's superman,
"i can conquer the world..!"
isn't that being silly?
obviously he can't.
and neither can the dad.
but our Daddy in heaven can.
so where are we turning to for help? for solace? for guidance?
stop kidding ourselves that we can do it.
of course we can do it, but only with God's help.
APPLICATION: Lord, i will put my trust in you, that it is only with your help that i can pass my driving test next week. let not selfish pride come in the way. i shall seek your help before the test.
