" In fact, though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you the elementary truths of God's word all over again. You need milk, not solid food! " - Hebrews 5:12
sometimes even 'old' Christians need to learn the elementary truths of God's word again.
=> we need to have a teachable attitude!
do not have the mentality of "aiya, it's this lesson again.. i already know..".
instead, think "WHAT else can i learn from this lesson? HAVE i really applied it? WHAT is God telling me?"
also, solid food might be inappropriate if we haven't fully grasped the basic foundation of God's word.
for example, if we don't even know WHY we love God, how can we expect ourselves to serve him and bring honour to his name?
let us learn to be humble. and child-like in our approach toward God.
let us grow to be teachers of men. but a child in God's sight.
MY APPLICATION: is the application of this week's sermon - to worship him verbally every morning!

I like the way this portion of Scripture places the weight upon the people and not the leaders. We often want the leaders to do everything but we must take responsibility for our actions, then perhaps we will one day be worthy leaders. We must diligently pursue growth. I love how Paul uses the food analogy in another part of Scripture:
1 Corinthians 3 (NIV)
1Brothers, I could not address you as spiritual but as worldly—mere infants in Christ. 2I gave you milk, not solid food, for you were not yet ready for it. Indeed, you are still not ready. 3You are still worldly. For since there is jealousy and quarreling among you, are you not worldly? Are you not acting like mere men?
